CBD, or cannabidiol, is derived from the male hemp plant. High-quality CBD products contain less than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which creates the hypnotic effects associated with cannabis. Patients who are on chemotherapy for cancer have found that CBD can help them increase their appetites, as decreased appetite can be a side effect of these therapies.

CBD is also being explored in scientific studies for its impact on veterans who, or PTSD. CBD may improve, reduce, or eliminate the anxiety and depression that veterans often experience when they return home to civilian life. In fact, many veterans are lobbying Washington, D.C., and local state governments to make CBD more available as a legitimate medical therapy for people living with PTSD.

More employers are now allowing their employees to use CBD in the workplace. High-quality CBD, when used properly and with the correct dosage, will not build up enough THC in a person’s system to show up on a drug test. This means that more employees can ditch the prescription opioid pain killers that leave them in a fog and use CBD to manage their chronic pain symptoms.

CBD has also become a viable alternative to dangerously-addictive prescription opioids. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, 130 people die per day from prescription opioid overdoses. CBD has not been associated with any adverse side effects, and it has not yet produced any addictive qualities in patients in studies. Some doctors and scientists see CBD as a promising treatment for opioid addiction, along with other substance abuses, including alcohol, stimulants, depressants, and even nicotine.
